Kinloss Primary is a Bird Friendly School
Kinloss Primary is very proud to have earned an EcoSchool Top award -the Green Flag but we are always looking for ways to develop our “Green Values.” We were delighted to be approached by R.S.P.B. to become a Bird Friendly school.
This meant we received visits from Paul Kendall the local R.S.P.B. Ranger and we were expected to find sponsorship for bird food and feed the birds and put up bird boxes.
P.4 was very eager to take part. They wrote letters to big firms asking for help to buy food and feeders. They made their own fat balls. They enjoyed lessons with Paul Kendall and using the bird hide we set up in the classroom. They did the R.S.P.B. Big Bird Watch in the School Grounds and sent off their results. They all observed birds at home too.
We were thrilled to receive generous donations from parents, Tesco, H.I.S. Highland and Pets at Home. The latter sent Dave to talk to us about caring for animals and gave us a large tub of fat balls, a sack of seed and other gifts and information.
This has been a good time to get involved in feeding birds as natural food has been very scarce. P.4 have had fun, learned a lot, helped wildlife and made an important contribution to our next steps towards our next Ecoschool Green Flag.
