Abernethy Ski Trip 2016

The ski trip took place between Tuesday 16th – Friday 19th February.
Primary 6 and 7 pupils from P5/6M, P6/7R and P7T went to on the trip.
Twenty seven Pupils and three staff (Mr Rutherford, Mrs Sinclair and Mrs Welsh)

This year we stayed in the house. We were joined at the school by a Catholic school from Stoke .

On the first day we skied on the dry slope then had nearly three full days skiing at the Lecht. Conditions were good. Weather varied from very cold with snow showers to beautiful blue skies and sunshine.
Excellent trip and every child progressed to managing the tows and skiing down the Robin, Wren, Kestrel and Eagle runs.

Thanks go to the excellent staff at the Abernethy Centre, the Lecht Ski Area Staff and especially to the three Kinloss Staff members Mr Rutherford, Mrs Sinclair and Mrs Welsh who accompanied the children on the trip. They took part in all the activities too and made sure everyone had a safe and enjoyable Abernethy Experience.

Filming Project

Since March of this year we have been working with some pupils from P6 and P7 in using a variety of ICT equipment, IPads, Studio Lights, Tripods, Panasonic Video Camera etc and with the support of Tim Flood an expert in this field has been training our young people in techniques including editing, voice over, camera skills. We were delighted to see some of this during the enterprise fayre when the clips were shared with parents. We hope to continue this development work into next term with other pupils to ensure we create a sustainable model. Funding for the equipment came from a bid into the Scottish Governments Fund for Pupil Engagement.

Burns Supper

Here are some pictures from our recent Burns Supper on Friday 24th January. The P6/7 Children prepared all the food with the help of their teachers, Mr Rutherford, Miss Mair and the Fusion team (Emily Souness, Kim Douglas and Ann Scotland). Apart from preparing the food the children, helped to decorate the venue (the school hall) and created a leaflet listing the programme for the event, background on Robert Burns and a photograph of the class as part of a four week preparation process (details below the slideshow).

It took four weeks of planning running up to the event itself.

Week 1  Researching Robert Burns, creating promotions and invitations, divide the class into groups and decide on roles e.g. chefs, researchers, designers and entertainers.

Week 2  Looked into sourcing ingredients, costings for the meal, invitations to parents, start creating decorations and practise the entertainment.

Week 3  Practiced cooking and did taste tests, decorations, entertainment practice and then start to look into the format of the day, allocating roles to certain pupils.

Week 4   Dress rehearsal for the big day, final entertainment practice, decorate the hall and prepare the food (Thursday 23rd Jan) ready for Friday. Finally a powerpoint was created of the photos showing the hardwork and preparation for the event.

Sports Day 2013

On Tuesday the children, staff and parents had another enjoyable Sports Day. The weather stayed dry and all the races went smoothly due to the organisational skills of Mrs Bichan (the PE specialist) and support of Kinloss Staff and the children who took part. Kinloss parents had their own opportunity to join in with the Mums’ and the Dads’ obstacle races. Finally when all the marks were added up for this event and few others held through the year it was Aigan House which got its name of the winners cup for the first time for many years.

After the successful event a group of enthusiastic group of parents supplied a waiting crowd with delicious home-made baking and refreshing tea, coffee or juice.

A Gallery page on this website has a wide range of photographs of the event.

Thanks to the pupils for their outstanding efforts.

Overall our school came third in the “B” category (based on school size).

The boys team gained a silver medal in relay and the girls team a bronze.

Health Week

In May we had a wonderful week of Health and Wellbeing focused-activities including Bouncy castle, Whole School Run, Cycling, Eat Well Plate, Rugby, Skipping, Zumba, Parachute, Kick boxing, Teeth and a Drug Game. The weather was kind and pupils from Nursery-P7 had a brilliant week to allow the focus on health and wellbeing which delivered across the school in an ongoing manner to be highlighted at a time when children and families are preparing for the summer break. Thanks to Mrs Riddell for the planning, management and organisation of this yet again.

Social Enterprise Fruit Sorbet in P6

P6 pupils took part in the Social Enterprise by creating and selling Fruit Sorbet raising funds for developing education in  third world country. The activity followed on from the P4’s Taste of Scotland and their Coffee Morning and the P2- P7 Christmas Cake sale which started the ball rolling for Social Enterprise. We intend to continue to develop this next session with more classes and more pupils getting involved in a variety of pupil-led activities and events.
